This vacancy is for a GS - 0101 - 11, Family Resource Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE NEW ORLEANS WORK-LIFE DIVISION -HW in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.
Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Knowledge of social service delivery systems and concepts, understanding how social or behavioral patterns or attitudes impact and affect work and family life issues, child development norms and behaviors, which promote a child's physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual growth and development Conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns and issues Provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services and options NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will serve as a Family Resource Specialist and be responsible for being the point of contact for family support services for all units located within the designated Area of Responsibility (AOR). Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Serves as a non-clinical case manager on issues pertaining to special needs conditions and the SNP to active-duty members and their families. Provides information to CG personnel concerning enrollment, dis-enrollment or update of status Collaborate with a regional Senior Medical Executive (SME) on establishing medical eligibility for enrollment of family members in the SNP Coordinate and/or provide training and outreach on Family Support Programs- This includes offering specialized briefings for new employees, commands, Outreach pre-deployment groups and unit training as needed. Maintain and manage special needs case records for all Active Duty members enrolled in SNP, IAW relevant Commandant Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures Collaborate and liaison with national organizations, federal, state, and local CIV and military agencies and services to obtain information for families with special needs for referrals and ongoing support/case management.
