This position is located in the US Coast Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Coast Guard, BASE Elizabeth City, Facilities Engineering Department, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-Out) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The incumbent for this position will serve as an air conditioning mechanic and a flexible trades worker performing a variety of skilled, semi-skilled duties. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and both minor and major repairs on HVAC&R systems and boilers. Installing, modifying, and overhauling air conditioning, refrigeration, heating systems, and boilers, including layout and setup. Conducting inspections of HVAC&R systems and boilers, ensuring safe working conditions and compliance with safety standards. Maintaining, repairing, disassembling, and reassembling boilers for inspection, servicing auxiliary equipment such as fuel systems, feed water systems, and condensate systems. Maintaining and repairing HVAC&R components, including compressors, pumps, valves, control systems, ductwork, motors, and other related equipment. Operating HVAC&R systems and boilers, monitor performance, and make necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation.
