Job Description:
The Long Beach VA Health Care System is recruiting for (1) Program Support Assistant (OA) at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Social Work Service. PSA supports the Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, which is part of the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. The PSA works closely with service leadership to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of HUD-VASH operations and to support high-quality, Veteran-centered care.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/08/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience with Microsoft platforms (teams, word, excel, powerpoint). Experience with timecards and spreadsheets. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties may include but are not limited to: Serves as a primary point of contact and subject matter resource for inquiries regarding HUD-VASH services and referral coordination Collaborates with VHA departments, the Social Work Administration Team, and Program Support Assistants (PSAs) across VISN 22 to support effective HUDVASH operations Performs timekeeping duties for HUD-VASH and supports other areas within Social Work Service Coordinates attendance tracking with the Social Work administrative team and generates encounter error reports for correction by appropriate staff Utilizes ADHOC encounter reports, SPARQ data, and Pyramid Analytics to support Social Work Supervisors in capturing provider productivity and producing required program reports Refer grievances to supervisors and assist Veterans with program concerns, helping explain relevant VA policies and procedures Provides essential support in tracking HUD-VASH program expenditures Assist with annual purchasing needs for the HUD-VASH Program and work closely with the HCHV Coordinator to maintain the Fiscal Control Point (FCP) Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
